What is the difference between a skylight and a sun tunnel?

Skylight

Skylights are windows installed on the roof of your home. They are typically rectangles made out of glass, acrylic or polycarbonate. They provide a view of the sky, and some models can be vented. The installation of a new skylight is more difficult and more expensive than a solar tube.

Sun Tunnel

Sun tunnels, or solar tubes, are designed to shine light from above the home into the interior. They come in standard measurements, like 10-inch or 14- inch, but you can also find larger ones. Sun tunnels are easier to install, which reduces the total cost compared to a skylight installation. But they are sealed, meaning that you can't use them for ventilation.
